It is very sad to see that degrading women has become so common and popular in this day and age. A woman used to be treated with such respect and now, as time passes by, women are merely pieces of meat thrown out in public, only to look pretty. To offset such degradation, women try to make a voice for themselves--a voice that is powerful and uplifting. Yet when we try to make such a statement, we are looked as "too liberal" or "too opinionated." This common occurence must be stopped soon. What words are used as degradation today are commonly funny and so over passed, like a man saying "get in the kitchen" or "did you see that ho?" Hardly anybody says anything to defend women when such phrases are put upon the table. We seem to simply laugh and play it off like common language and vocabulary. Phrases like that might as well be seen in the dictionary in the next five years. Perhaps a victory by Hillary Clinton may change misogyny. But the change would only be minor in my opinion. People would probably laugh at her and say, "yeah, well she's too opinionated and that bitch needs to shut up." I would hardly be half surprised if somebody were to say that. However, I believe that if a man had stated that, his message would be heard louder and clearer. Maybe it has something to do with this dumb double standard...(246 words. Stephanie Ho. Period 1)
